The Pyramid Valley

It was the saturday morning, summer was setting in and we couldn’t stay in bed for too long. Woke up early and decided to drive away. No destination in mind, no plans made. We packed our bags and sat in the car. We had to make a decision now.....atleast which road to take. We had the choice of heading in multiple directions considering Bangalore is based centrally. But yes, we chose the Kanakapura Road.

We called in a few friends to see if they were interested to join in, but the lazy buggers they are...well, it was just the two of us taking off. 

Roxy, our Honda city was our companion. He was ready at all times. He had the right kind of music to set us into the holiday mood. As we drove on Kanakapura road, it struck to me of a memorable discussion I once had with a colleague of mine about a huge pyramid shaped hall built for meditation. It had become an attraction to the visitors of the Garden City. We were the few who were spared from this attraction. Remembering his words, we decided to visit that place and took the deviation. Its about 28kms from the Kanakapura Junction, on the Kebbedodde Village road.

The kaccha road led us through lakes and hills for about 2 kms and then poof, we had the first glance of the huge pyramid. It was huge, but then nothing like what I expected. I imagined a huge golden pyramid, like the Matra Mandir of Auroville, whose shine would reflect on to the surroundings, etc etc. But ya.....the reality was something different....different but interesting.

At the centre of this forty acre lush green valley, stood the 110ft high magnanimous Maitreya Buddha Pyramid. The walk to the pyramid is enchanted by beautiful landscape of rocks, gardens and a lake transcending the already mesmerised mind into a state of calmness.


A little about the Pyramid Valley:

It is said that the Pyramid Valley is a paradise to relax, meditate or just to be one with nature or experiment by learning new life skills where the spiritual and emotional needs are met. It is also a place to encounter the experiences of the world spiritual masters and develop a holistic approach to life and learning. It was inspired and founded by Sri Brahmarshi Patriji. It has a capacity of accommodating 5,000 people and is built solely for practicing intensive meditation. It has a base area of 160ft. x 160ft and a height of 110ft. 

It is constructed on the principles of Giza Pyramid, oriented exactly in the North – South direction, having the golden angle of inclination at 51° 51’ and the King’s Chamber located at the centre at 1/3rd the height of the Pyramid. 

Though this place is meant for serious meditators and spiritually inclined individuals, for me it seemed more like a tourist spot.

To the little I remember of the Annapurna Range

Along the greatest heights of the Himalayas where cold mountains meet the heated Indian plains lies the land of Yaks and Yetis, Stupas and Sherpas – Nepal . It was 9 years ago that I visited this place. I was 16 then and had no inclinations to write travelogues, but today when I look back, I wish I had. It was the scotching summer of 2000, and May being the holiday season for all we cousins, the elders of the family planned a trip to the north. It was once again a family trip, this time to a rare destination in Nepal stretching for a fortnight.
